Digital transformation has changed the way people do business and build customer experiences. Customer experience now has to come with ease and comfort while making purchases and receiving them anywhere and anytime globally. But everything comes at a price!
For companies to run their online business smoothly, they have to collect their customers’ personal information. Seamless experiences call for diving into the name of the customer, phone number, address, payment methods, etc… As much as the customers realize the hardcore value of their personal information, they are certainly not ready to sacrifice all that for the sake of it.
For instance, companies and businesses have to find a way to reach an equilibrium between personal information security and customer experience.
Passwords, Their Strength, and How Customers Deal With Them
Passwords are the first and most common step for a customer to apply to protect their data and accounts. Usually, longer and more complex passwords are proven to have a better and more secure effect over channels. Customers will always take security requirements more seriously as long as it is linked to their personal information and data.
Time is money, and memories are short to grasp all the long and complex passwords every time. Complex passwords have to include capital letters, numbers, and sometimes characters to ensure their complexity and effectiveness. Customers, to avoid all the hassle, reuse their passwords on different channels and platforms. They prefer not having difficult passwords for them to be able to remember and memorize easily.
N.B. It is advised to change your passwords now and then and use passwords with strong potential to avoid any breaches and leaks of any information and data.
And then there is phishing. Phishing is a scam that usually includes a party that calls or reaches someone via email or text message and requests a password to confirm their identity. In this case, the phisher can now access accounts easily since all the data and the password are already within his power.
Multi-factor Authentication – Double Security One of the most important ways to ensure additional security is to reinforce passwords with multiple and additional means of protection and identification.
Many companies and social media platforms request their customers to abide by multiple-factor authentication. It spares a lot of account takeovers, fraudulent activities, and identity theft chaos.
Multi-factor authentication works by accessing accounts while providing several authentication factors. Why? This proves their identity and makes data leakage less likely to happen. The most common way this is done is by asking for a username and a password and then followed by a second factor (third, fourth, and sometimes fifth). This may include a phone number, token, etc…
